Safir - Our pro range Nordic tipis are top-of-the line for materials, construction, ventilation features, and extreme use.  Available in 5, 7, and 9 man sizes, in your choice of either breathable cotton/polyester canvas fabric, or green colored lightweight nylon.

Includes all the features of Onyx and Zirkon, with these additional enhancements:

  • 3 rain-protected, mosquito-netted air intakes at bottom edge of tent for optimum ventilation and smoke control.
  • Best quality fabrics. It is the relentless pursuit of the best fabric - chosen for performance not price - that puts Safir in a class of its own. Safir is used by professionals in the most extreme conditions - in ice fields, in storm force gales, on top of glaciers or in blazing heat

Breathable or lightweight fabric?

Breathable cotton/polyester (cp) lets condensation out providing a much more comfortable atmosphere inside a tent in all climates.  However, this is especially valuable in cold weather when warm, moist air - such as your breath, or steam from boiling water - would otherwise build up on the walls of the tent as condensation.  Only a breathable fabric prevents this condensation inside the tent.  Tents made of cp material provide an unbeatable atmosphere and are ideal when used in a stationary or base camp, or when the load can be shared between members of a group when hiking.

Lightweight fabric (light):  High quality nylon fabrics are much lighter and pack up smaller than cp fabrics. Coated nylon fabrics don't provide as cozy an atmosphere as cp, however, they are completely waterproof even in driving rain and snow.  Choose (light) fabrics when size and carry weight are of paramount importance.

Tip: Choose cotton/polyester (cp) fabric unless you are hiking or backpacking, only if you will be carrying the tent long distances.

How big should it be?

Use our floor plans and images to visualize the space you need. Think how far you must carry the tent and how many people there are to help. Also, a bigger tent is more sensitive to snow and extreme winds.

Tip: If you are not limited by weight and the threat of extreme weather, think bigger for the extra comfort.

 How much should I spend?

Tentipi Nordic tipis are expensive, but they provide so much more than a normal tent. Once you use and experience the unique design features in a Tentipi Nordic tipi, you'll never want to be without them again.  It's a comfortable home in your backpack, rather than just flimsy roof over your head.

At the end of a long and exhausting day outdoors, isn’t this level of comfort something you'll look forward to?

Onyx is an outstanding lightweight tent, ideal for backpacking, and will cope with almost anything the elements can throw at it. But if you need better ventilation features or more extreme materials, choose Zirkon or Safir.

Tip: If you like both backpacking as well as traditional base camping , and if you can afford it, choose a smaller-size Safir light, plus a bigger Safir cp to cover both needs instead of compromising.

Why choose Tentipi?

The ingenious, timeless design of the traditional tipi has been combined with today's world-class materials and workmanship to raise it's comfort and performance to an even higher level.

Like its predecessors, Tentipi continues to offer the option of either an open fire or a wood stove inside the tent.  The ability to warm up and dry out is priceless.  Heat is like a magic key that opens up all four seasons to outdoor enjoyment.

There is standing height in all of our tipi's.

Every tipi has space for more people to sit in a circle and socialize than just the designated number of sleeping places.

Every tipi can be used for so many more things than just hiking, e.g. for a garden party with real atmosphere or as spacious accommodation when on a road trip.

The ventilation in a Tentipi Safir Nordic tipi is in a league of its own. Three amply large fresh air intakes and a large opening at the top ensure proper air circulation. The patented ventilation adjustment system makes it easy to regulate the ventilation.

When the sun begins to warm up the tent in the mornings, you just open the cap at the top, without even having to get out of your sleeping bag.

We believe that a Tentipi single-pole tipi, particularly the Safir, is the very best choice of tent in the world.

Tip:  By a large margin, Safir 9 cp and Safir 7 cp are our most popular tents. If you only want to buy one versatile tent to meet all your needs, you can't go wrong with one of these.  Then, enjoy it for your lifetime of adventures!
